The Richardson School is now accepting applications for a physical education and health teacher position at our Appleton location! The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing physical and health education programs. Evaluates general physical education curriculum for appropriateness while utilizing adapted physical education information. The Richardson School provides a year-round school option for local districts to access for children with special needs. Typically these children have been dually diagnosed with developmental or neurological disabilities and emotional, behavioral or mental health disorders. The Richardson School serves children with a range of intellectual disabilities, including those who are non-verbal. We serve children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, Asperger’s syndrome, pervasive developmental disorders, learning disabilities, neurological impairments, behavioral disorders, speech and language impairments, genetic disorders, seizure disorders and other neurological disabilities. Children with developmental disabilities, as well as multiple medical conditions, including sight or hearing impairments, are also carefully considered for services, depending on other diagnostic features. Responsibilities Designs achievement-based physical education programs based on current abilities and needs of students. Develops appropriate adapted physical education IEP goals and objectives. Evaluates and updates student progress of performance in physical education setting. Teaches health and hygiene classes with age-specific content. Qualifications Requires Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Requires candidates to be certified by the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in either Adaptive Physical Education (1860) or Physical Education (1530) in addition to Health Education (1910). Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
