The Wisconsin Education Career Access Network (WECAN) was started in 2001 to help educators search for teaching jobs across Wisconsin and streamline applicant review, selection, and recruitment processes. WECAN launched with approximately 10 schools and today serves more than 500 schools each year.
Strong partnership between the UW-Madison School of Education Career Center and the Wisconsin Association of School Personnel Administrators (WASPA) has contributed to WECAN’s success. Beginning this fall, leadership, execution, and support for WECAN services will seamlessly transition to a new partnership between UW-La Crosse Graduate and Extended Learning and WASPA. UW-La Crosse Graduate and Extended Learning is excited for the transition and is well-positioned to support WECAN users and facilitate future enhancements to the application. Meanwhile, WASPA will take on a stronger administrative role with WECAN, intent on better aligning the billing cycle with school districts’ fiscal year.
In addition, we launched an improved version of WECAN on October 18, 2021 that will make it easier for districts to post vacancies and for applicants to find available positions. This new version has a similar feel to the previous version of WECAN — but with more intuitive workflows for school districts and applicants. High-quality user support will continue through this transition and beyond.
WECAN is a nonprofit venture supported by membership fees from school districts across Wisconsin.
WECAN was developed through a collaboration of Wisconsin school districts, teacher training colleges and teachers with WASPA - Wisconsin Association of School Personnel Administrators. WECAN is managed and maintained by Graduate & Extended Learning at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in collaboration with WASPA.
