POSITION: Middle School Principal REPORTS TO: Superintendent GENERAL FUNCTION: Provide vision, leadership, and administration that will motivate instructional and support staff to strive for superior performance to provide the best possible opportunities for maximum student growth and development, educationally and personally. LICENSURE REQUIRED: Valid DPI license, Principal ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Curriculum and Instruction: Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school. Program classes within established guidelines to meet student needs in all curricular areas. Initiate, design, and implement RTI programming to meet specific needs of the school. Lead building level goal setting and approve grade level benchmarks for student achievement. Coordinate student assessments with the District Assessment Coordinator. Ensure technology integration for student preparation as 21st century learners. Staffing: Determine, prepare, and submit school staffing requests based upon student enrollment and educational needs. Recommend staff for recognition by the school board and administration. Connect staff skills and talents with the needs of the students. Supervision and Evaluation: Direct Supervision of: Licensed staff- Teachers, Specialists, Counselor Aide staff Clerical Staff Instructional support staff/specialists Indirect Supervision of: Special education aide staff Health aide/nurse assistant Custodian Food service Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their development, as appropriate. Evaluate and guide staff members regarding their individual and group performance. Conduct meetings to keep staff members informed and to gain input. Coordinate staff development. Facilitate a school leadership team to review school based needs and develop strategies for meeting district strategic priorities. Student Services: Implement guiding principles for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline at all times. Collaborate with other district and school leaders to support student success. Engage in communication to keep parents and community members informed. Facilitate a school leadership team and other groups in order to best serve the district and school. Management: Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration. Prepare and submit the school's budgetary requests and monitor expenditures. Maintain and control various local funds generated by student activities. Comply with federal, state, local, and district mandates concerning emergency procedures. Responsible for the health and safety of all students, staff, guests, and visitors to the school. Assist in the supervision of maintenance of the building and grounds. Coordinate the use of the building during and after school hours with the district office staff. Assist in the supervision of and monitor transportation services at the building level. Equity and Communication: Implement guiding principles for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline at all times. Commit to communication strategies in order to keep parents and community members informed. Establish and maintain relationships to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret school board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems. Miscellaneous: Keep abreast of changes and development in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. Demonstrate knowledge of current educational research and practices. Support student extra- and co-curricular interests by attending, when possible, student activities outside the school day. Attend regular admin team meetings as requested. Attend monthly School Board meetings and present Board reports as requested. Attend special meetings, hearings, community meetings, etc. as requested. Cooperate with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation. Perform various tasks as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Operations.
