The Butternut School District currently is seeking qualified candidates to fill a special education teacher position. Our school is a safe and welcoming place where students receive personal attention from adults who care about them. Start Date: 2022-2023 School Year Salary/Wages: Salaried position based on certification and experience Job Summary: Under the direction of the school administration, special education director, and supervisors, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and support to students with disabilities and works in continuous collaboration with the general education teachers. Acts as the lead facilitator in the development of Individual Education Programs (IEP) and all documentation required in its implementation. Provides an atmosphere and environment conductive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Performance Responsibilities: 1. The role of the special education teacher in the school-based program includes providing both direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities. 2. Prepares for IEP team meetings and provides case management for assigned students with disabilities. 3. Interprets both formal and informal classroom, district, and state-based assessments for students in order to make instructional decisions. 4. Collects data on student performance in order to implement standards-based instruction and write standards-based IEP goals in a timely manner. 5. Selects and adapts materials to assist students with disabilities to access the general education curriculum. 6. Participates in professional development activities designed to advance teacher knowledge in the areas of instruction, best practices, and differentiated instruction. 7. Supervises and plans for the continuing professional development of paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom. 8 Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 9. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law. 10. Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. 11. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. 12. Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community that reflect recognition of and respect for every individual. 13. Regularly evaluates and reflects on their own effectiveness and demonstrates the successful application of skills and information acquired to increase effectiveness. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. 14. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. 15. Assists students with other needs as appropriate; such as toileting, feeding and etc. 16. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law, board policy, administrative regulation, department handbook, and/or as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission. Certification and Licensure: Minimum: Bachelor's degree and valid DPI license in special education area(s). Priority may be given to candidates currently holding (or willing to acquire) additional licenses.
