Part Time
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in working with students; higher preference will be for those with experience with students who require Special Education programming.
Certification:
Lifeguarding
State of Wisconsin, Special Education certification is required prior or after placement in the position. $100.00 for a five year license and renewals are necessary as long as you remain in Special Education.
CPI certification is required prior or after placement in the position by first available training session.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Assists in keeping order in the pool.
2. May supervise the pool when a teacher is called away due to an emergency.
3. Devote attention to children needing discipline and/or special help.
4. Bathroom students (clean body waste and fluids).
5. Wash towels and swimsuits.
6. Provide primary personal and health care needs.
7. Assist teacher with teaching and therapy in the pool.
8. Assist with annotated record keeping.
9. Assist the teacher in conducting specialized programs in the pool.
10. Dress students in the locker-room.
11. Reports all questionable situations to supervisor.
12. Participates in in-service sessions in the building and at program levels.
13. Help supervise large group swims.
14. Reinforce water safety procedures.
15. Apply first aid as needed.
16. Apply CPR as needed.
17. Lifeguard at all times.
18. Must have Physical stamina, and be able to reach, stoop/kneel, crouch/crawl, push/pull, lift/carry, climb/balance, stand and walk constantly, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Two (2) years experience in working with students; higher preference will be for those with experience with students who require Special Education programming.
Certification:
State of Wisconsin, Special Education certification is required prior or after placement in the position.
Lifeguard Certification
Appropriate CPI certification is required prior or after placement in the position by first available training session.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
1. Familiar with organization and operation of school.
2. Must be able to swim.
3. Work with medically fragile students.
4. Work with students who communicate in non-conventional manners/systems.
5. Good independent judgement in routine and non-routine situations.
6. Be patient and innovative.
7. Have willingness and ability to follow detailed verbal and written directives.
8. Good oral communication skills.
9. Familiar with lifeguard techniques.
10. A good safety role model for students.
11. Must be dependable and punctual.
12. Must have a satisfactory attendance record.
13. Must have a positive attitude toward education.
14. Aware of and sensitive to the needs of students.
